Honest Review: Hello Fresh

Posted on June 14 2019

First things first, I am not getting paid in any way, shape or form for this review. All opinions are completely my own, good and bad.

I've been getting Hello Fresh boxes for a few months now. I started off with 3 different recipes meaning I'd get 6 meals in total a week. About two months ago I upped the number of meals to 4, meaning I'd receive 8 meals weekly.

These are my favs:

1. Chicken Cheddar Fajitas with bell pepper, lime crema and pickled jalapeños - so good! I do wish this one had come with a side of some sort but I've gladly chosen it more than 3 times since I started getting boxes. The more pickled jalapeños the better!

2. Meatloaf Balsamico with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans - I didn't even manage to get a pic of this one and I've made it at least 4 times in the last 6 months.

3. Roasted Garlic Herb Penne with asparagus, tomatoes and crispy capers - Same here. I wolfed it down so fast. This is one of the few recipes I've made on my own. I just headed to the grocery store with the recipe in hand to recreate it.

4. Crispy Parmesan Chicken with garlic herb couscous and lemony roasted carrots - Surprisingly the lemony carrots and couscous were my favorite parts!

5. Sesame Beef Tacos with quick-pickled veggies and spicy crema - yet another I didn't even manage to get a picture of! They've only offered this twice since the first time I had it but I will choose it each and every time it's offered. It's just THAT good.

 6. Beef Bulgogi Bowls with carrots, cucumber and sriracha crema over jasmine rice - When this is offered I choose it every time and make it as soon as the box arrives. I know I say that every time but this is really one of their Hall of Fame recipes and it's clear why.

7. Crispy Hot Honey Chicken with carrot fries and chive mashed potatoes - another delicious meal I choose every time. I even ordered the Mike's Hot Honey  for other dishes.

8. Mediterranean Salmon with creamy dill sauce, green beans and Za'atar couscous - so delicious and I'm not even a huge fan of dill.

9. Pork and Veggie Bibimbap with zucchini, carrot and jasmine rice - another one of my favorite Asian dishes. It's also another of the Hall of Fame recipes.

10. Crispy Pork Milanese with cheesy potatoes and blistered tomatoes - I was hesitant about this one because tomatoes are NOT a favorite. I was very pleasantly surprised! It reminded me of caprese salad, one of the few tomato dishes I do like.

11. Pork Carnitas Tacos with pickled onion and Monterey Jack cheese - You pretty much can't go wrong with any of the Hello Fresh taco recipes. This one is my second fav behind the Sesame Beef Tacos.

12. Pork Bulgogi Meatballs with carrots and zucchini over rice - Another Asian meal that is seriously delicious!

Now for the not-so-favorites:

1. Creamy Dill Chicken with roasted potatoes and green beans - I noticed after I'd followed the recipe that the amount of fresh dill for the 2 serving and the 4 serving recipe called for the same amount of dill. I'm not a huge fan of dill in the first place and this one called for WAY too much. Gross.

2. Chipotle-Spiced Tilapia Tacos with kiwi pico de gallo and chipotle crema - soft on soft on soft. Soft fish with soft toppings inside a soft flour tortilla. It was just so bland even with the chipotle spice crusted fish and crema. I need a little texture to my food!

3. Honey-Glazed Pork Tenderloin with roasted sweet potatoes and green beans - it was ok but nothing to write home about. Again, somewhat bland. Most other pan sauce recipes are good just not this one.

4. Chicken Pineapple Quesadillas with pico de gallo and southwest spice - This recipe gave me heartburn so badly! I didn't like it in general but it is one of the Hall of Fame recipes.

5. Cranberry Apple Pork Chops with roasted baby carrots and herbed potatoes - Another bland recipe. I thought this one would be a good fall-ish recipe but it was so bland.

6. Hawaiian Chicken Poke Bowls with pineapple, coconut cashews and sriracha cream - I thought this one would be good but it was WAY too sweet for my taste even with the extra sriracha I added. By the way, the coconut cashews were candied and the recipe even calls for sugar.

All in all I've been very happy with Hello Fresh and the recipes I've selected.
